Reflections on TURNING 30

This week marks 5 years since I moved to Seattle and started working at SSP and I’m blown away at how much life can change in 5 years.

Since moving here I’ve:

  • Gotten engaged, married (legally speaking, we didn’t have a wedding), divorced, and started a new relationship

  • Had 5 different roles at a company that I truly adore and helped scale it from 1 gym and ~80 members, to 5 going on 7 gyms and a thriving membership base of over 1,000

  • Started competing in powerlifting, did 4 meets, helped coach other powerlifters, and then “retired” from powerlifting

  • Started running for the first time in my life and went from not being able to run 1 mile to regularly being able to run 4-5 miles (and soon signing up for a fun race hehe)

  • Moved 4 times

  • Made friends, lost friends, reconnected with some people from deep in my past

  • Met some of the absolute best and absolute worst people I’ve ever known

  • Had two different therapists, got two new mental health diagnoses, and tried 3 different regimens of mental health medications

  • Given 3 in person talks, hosted successful online workshops, been interviewed for numerous national publications, built a personal brand & website, and grown my social media by over 16k new followers

  • Cried a lot, laughed a lot, healed a lot, learned to find the beauty in life even through painful moments

Heading into year 6 in Seattle and with SSP I feel nothing but deep gratitude. I am thankful every fucking day that I get to do work both personally and professionally that makes peoples lives better. Being a coach and leader is such a privilege and honor. People trusting me and us with their health is a responsibility I carry with great respect and will never ever take for granted.

I would’ve never imagined where I could be 5 years into being in Seattle, about to turn 30. My life is wildly different than it was 5 years ago but some things remain true:

  • I love moving my body and helping others learn to love it as well

  • I’m thankful to have found such a rewarding calling in this life

  • I will continue to encourage, speak up, defend, and advocate even when it’s hard

  • I will ALWAYS choose hope and bravery and to ask myself “what is the best that could happen”
